Goeie naand broers en susters in Christus
Good evening
In the covering letter of Philip’s last newsletter, we told you about how he was struggling with the flooding of his house on the Moken Island of Ko Phayam. You can go to his Newsletter page above and read all of his newsletters in which he describes the building of this home on the island.
It is now monsoon
season in Thailand and they are experiencing exceptionally high spring tides –
occurring every new moon.
bou.
word.
As a belonger in
the Moken community, Philip was given a small area of land on the Island, where
he was permitted to build his home. Due
to limitations in respect of materials, time & labour, he only managed to
build the house on ground level with a cement slab for the floor – unlike the
raised houses of the local people.
Philip and the
children he is now caring for (while their parents are on the sea fishing for
periods of up to 6 months), are now being flooded out of their home every 30 or
so days – everything on ground level is being washed away with the rising waters
– conditions that are near impossible to continue living under.
The only alternative for Philip is to break down his house, and re-build it on stilts so that the flood waters can wash underneath and so he & the children can then remain dry in their home.
Hy
onderrig. Hy is alleen – daar is
Philip however,
cannot undertake this task on his own for many reasons – he is parenting,
feeding, transporting and teaching (at the local school) up to 13 of the Moken
children at any one time. Then he is
alone – there is limited manpower (adult help) to assist him in the physical
building. Philip then also has limited funds available to purchase the required
materials for this project, as he is carrying the costs of looking after these
children from his monthly partner contributions only.
vloedwaters.
We mentioned in
the last e-mail to you that a small group of people volunteered (on very short
notice) to undertake a ‘Disaster Relief’ expedition to help a dear, faithful
friend & Kingdom servant re-build his home on stilts – away from the
flooding waters.
Since then it has certainly come together and our invitation to you today is to invest in this undertaking.
Some have already
responded to partner with us, so as to have a real part in this opportunity to
ensure longevity of the mission’s effort in establishing HIS Kingdom on the
Island of Ko Phayam.
However, there is
still time for you to respond to this special needs project – either by
contributing towards the cost of the materials required to complete the task or
by contributing towards the costs of the building team.
The budget thus
far is for 4 people going for 3 weeks, which includes airfare, all
accommodation, local travel costs & meals:
–R11 000 per team
member (air ticket R8 000) X 4 = R44 000 – R18 000 (already pledged) = R26 000
still required
–Extra building materials for the house R10 000 – R5 000 (already pledged) = R5 000 still required
The team is planning on departing Sunday 8 July and will be returning Saturday 28 July, so that the house is lifted and completed before the next spring tide.
Time is thus very limited, so we ask of you to hear from Our Lord and respond to us by Friday 29 June at 12H00, as all the arrangements needs to be paid and finalised.
Payments can be made directly into Philip’s bank account:
